Faith and Spirituality

God - The Source of Faith and Spirituality
In our culture, everything is marketed to be about us.  Our church tries to be about God.  We try to open ourselves to God's presence and guidance in all things.  We seek God's purpose for our lives as individuals and as a community of faith.

So prayer is at the center.  At Memorial, we are a people who pray.  Every meeting and activity begins with a reading of scripture and a time of prayer.

Our spirituality is based in relationship: first, a relationship with a loving God, and then loving relationships with all the people in our life's journey (particularly the stranger).

We meet God in Living Word and Holy Sacraments.  We take the sacred teachings and experience of those who have gone before us seriously.  We learn spiritual practices to open our lives to God's grace.

We also meet God in service to the neighbor.  A large banner in our sanctuary reads, "In our era, the road to holiness necessarily passes through the world of action."  Jesus promised that when we have fed, clothed, visited another, it is as if we have been in relationship with Him.

We don't have all the answers.
Our faith and spirituality has room for questions and doubts.
Because, in the end, it isn't about us, it is about God.
